The article shows how fruitful an emotion focussed model for the understanding of health and illness can be. On these grounds the approach of both the natural and human sciences to issues of prevention and health promotion can be deeply enriched. In addition, benefits of the proposed focus on emotions are demonstrated and discussed for the fostering of self care and professionalism in nurses as well as for the patients´ health benefit. -- Keywords -- bio-psycho-social theory, emotional competence, health promotion, health sciences, prevention, professional care -- -- Der Beitrag macht deutlich wie fruchtbar ein emotionsfokussiertes Modell für ein natur- und humanwissenschaftlich fundiertes Verständnis von Gesundheit und Krankheit sowie für darauf aufbauende Überlegungen zu Prävention und Gesundheitsförderung ist.
