Description / Abstract
Der Beitrag untersucht, wie Kinderärzte in der Bundesrepublik seit den 1960er-Jahren die institutionelle Betreuung von Kindern unter drei Jahren wahrgenommen und bewertet haben. Eine Inhaltsanalyse pädiatrischer Lehrbücher weist auf eine andauernd hohe Skepsis hin: Basierend auf bindungstheoretischen Forschungen zum Hospitalismus in Säuglingsheimen warnte die Pädiatrie vor Betreuungsinstitutionen aller Art und hielt an dieser Skepsis noch fest, als Säuglingsheime längst nicht mehr existierten. Erst nach der Jahrtausendwende ist eine partielle Neubewertung institutioneller Kleinkindbetreuung erkennbar, die derzeit allerdings nicht von der gesamten pädiatrischen Disziplin getragen wird.

In this paper, I examine how institutional childcare of children under three has been perceived by paediatricians since the 1960s in the Federal Republic of Germany. Applying the method of a qualitative content analysis to paediatric textbooks, a high scepticism becomes evident: Based on research findings in the field of attachment theory concerning hospitalism in baby nurseries, paediatricians continuously and strictly advised against childcare institutions of any kind. It is not until the millennium change that a partial re-evaluation of early childhood care becomes visible, which presently is not supported across the entire discipline.
