Die sozialisatorische Bedeutung von persönlichen Dingen erweist sich sowohl in den Transfer-Kontexten der Mensch-Ding-Beziehungen als auch im Rahmen intrapersonaler Transformations- und Entwicklungsprozesse als ambivalenzaffin. In solchen Übergangskontexten entfalten Dinge ihre eigenen, nur selten vorab oder an sich´ zu bestimmenden Wirkungen. Die These dieses Beitrags lautet, dass es genau diese Unschärfe des betwixt´ und beyond´ ist, die Dinge so ambivalenzträchtig macht. Aus der Perspektive aktueller Ambivalenzdiskurse und -heuristiken werden diese Überlegungen auf die Frage der Bedeutung von ersten´ und letzten´ Dingen in Übergangsräumen menschlicher Lebensverläufe bezogen. So geht es (1) um den Stellenwert von Puppen als frühkindliche Übergangsobjekte, (2) um den Umgang mit persönlichen Dingen beim Umzug ins Altenheim und (3) um Dinge auf ihrem Weg zum Erbstück. In allen drei Übergangskontexten wird eine bemerkenswerte Ambivalenzdynamik erzeugt, die performativ als Impulsgeber für Identitätsentwicklung wirkt.
The socializing significance of things generates ambivalence within the transference sphere of human-thing-relations as well as in the context of intrapersonal transformation and development. Things unfold their own specific effects In such transitonal spaces, rarely to be determined in advance or in itself. The main argument of this contribution goes like follows: It is precisely this blurring ´betwixt´ and ´beyond´ that triggers the specific aura of ambivalence. From the perspective of ambivalence discourses and heuristics these reflections are related to the possible impact of ´first ´and ´last´ things across human life course transitions. Thus, (1) the importance of dolls as early childhood transitional objects is analyzed as well as (2) coping with personal items while moving into a nursing home and, finally, (3) dealing with things on their way to become heirloom. All three transitional contexts trigger a remarkable potential of ambivalence dynamics acting performative while initiating further identity development.
