Beschreibung / Abstract
In the colonial scramble for influence and commercial advantages, education was often abused as an instrument of power by the various state and religious authorities. This was especially evident in the former German protectorate of Cameroon, whose history was determined by differing colonial rulers. The key role of Germany in the configuration of the school system is still apparent. The withdrawal of the German protectorate power as a consequence of World War I was a significant setback for the development of the Cameroonian educational system.
