The promotion of Self-concept in physical education for young people with an intellectu-al disability
Abstract: The promotion of the Self-concept is an important objective of physical educa-tion. Current principles for the promotion of Self-concept pertain largely to mainstream schooling. However, it is still uncertain how these principles apply to settings of special or inclusive education. The present article argues that with respect to Self-concept promoting physical education, mainstream methods can be applied to intellectually disabled students, with little variation, aside from certain methodological measures.
Keywords: self-concept, intellectual disability, didactical-methodological principles, physical education
