Summary: This article traces the origins and effects of the popular Polish discourse on Georgia, which is nowadays encountered in the media, in popular culture, politics and in everyday talk. It positions it within the broader logic of historical imagining in Poland, employing Bourdieu´s concept of performativity in discourse and the apparatus of traditional critical discourse analysis. Especially the notion of recontextualization is applied to uncover the dynamics of discourse, showing how, by rather simple linguistic means, new meanings can be created and perpetuated. Keywords: Poland, Georgia, brotherhood, history, media, recontextualization
