Abstract: The article examines whether the sociological tems ´inclusion / exclusion´ can provide orientation concerning the readjustment of the education system. This is based mainly upon Kronauers´ theory, which sees inclusion as social belonging and participation in regard to social division of labour, social reciprocity and civil rights. Since the concept of participation applies more strongly to the acting subject and her view of social relationships than the concept of social belonging does, its implications for inclusive pedagogy are analysed. This deals mainly with the possibility of a reduction in exclusion through opportunities for participation and capabilities.

Keywords: Exclusion, Inclusion, social inequality, participation, capability approach, education, transitions
