-- The author deals in a critical way with the book "Why our children become tyrants. Or: the abolishment of childhood" by Michael Winterhoff, which has been by far the most successful book on the market of education literature during the last year. Criticized is mainly Winterhoffs way of operating with propositions of permanent and dramatic aggravation and decline in respect to the field of education, without presenting any empirical data to proof those propositions. Furthermore, Winterhoffs thesis, that it was mainly the idea of "partnership" and "cooperativeness" that led to the decline of educational conditions in this country, is criticized as well as his peculiar concept of child development, according to which the development of personality does not begin before the age of eight or nine. In the face of the astonishing success of this book, the general question arises, why again and again guidebooks in the field of child treatment that present rather radical and dubious thesis without empirical proof, find such big response in the public. --
