Description / Abstract

Abstract: The american sociologist Daniel Bell is well-known in Germany particularly as an important representative of the concept of ?knowledge society?. In his work however, he also develops an incomplete sociological theory which shows the influence of Max Weber. For a better understanding of this theory, it can be described as a differentiation theory. At the same time it can fill a gap within this school of thought, since it is more empirical and historical orientated and pays more attention to the economic sphere than other variants of the differentiation theory.

Keywords: Daniel Bell, differentiation theory, knowledge society, Talcott Parsons, Max Weber
