Description / Abstract

In the young FRG, with a peak from the 1960s to the middle of the 1970s, there was a strong transfer of French light music to Germany. French interpreters performed in Germany with their chansons in a German version or with specially produced »Schlager« from German text writers and composers »à la française«. The popularity of those singers can be seen with a look at the charts of these years (there were at least one or two number-one-hits per year of a French singer in the period mentioned above) and also with the Golden Records and other German awards, they won. The present article will deal with this temporally limited phenomenon and introduce some of the most popular French artists, such as Mireille Mathieu, Barbara and Sacha Distel, who were admired as »Schlagerstars«.
