Description / Abstract

Abstract: ´Boys are the ones who act violently´ is a widespread belief in everyday aware-ness. Research only recently focused on the fact that girls and young women too use phys-ical violence and by this claim power for themselves. Based on a case study with a female adolescent using violence and opposing to the ruling gender order - as it seems initially - this article looks into the subjective biographical meaning of the use of violence against the background of subjective concepts of femininity. To do so, the theoretical frame will be outlined from a sociological and a psychoanalytic perspective on gender. Following this, there will be an outline of the case before going deeper into some significant segments of the interview. At the end the question of how much value an approach from the perspec-tive of adolescents can have for their own and for others´ understanding, as well as for a pedagogical action, will be addressed.
