Description / Abstract
Lovejoy, multiparadigmatische Wissenschaft, Nagel, Paradigma, Reduktion, Romantik, Soziologie
Paradigms, Incommensurability, and Emergence: Kuhn´s Structure as a Problem for Sociology
This entry investigates the premises of the conceptualization of sociology as a multiparadigmatic science. It shows that Kuhn´s position is based upon a theory of emergent evolution that produces a romantic pluralism of incommensurable theories. It shows, too, that this position is neither valid in a philosophical nor in an empirical sense. Therefore, it is recommendable to work with its counter-position: i.e. the unification of science by means of theory reduction.
Keywords: emergence, emergent evolution, incommensurability, Kuhn, Lovejoy, multiparadigmatic science, Nagel, paradigm, reduction, romanticism, sociology, unity of science
