Description / Abstract

Within discourse analysis we do establish a huge gap between the broad theoretical under-standing of discourse as the whole accessible multi-sited reality on the one hand and its em-pirical investigation on the other hand: The analysis of concrete discourses remains mostly restricted to speech analysis. To close this gap is a huge challenge to discourse analysis and the following theoretical and methodological considerations are dedicated to this aim. The article argues in favour of a dispositif analysis referring to ideas of Michel Foucault, Bruno Latour and Judith Butler and aiming at the analysis of the heterogeneity of the world as well as the performative connection of its diverse elements. Last but not least the question of human agency within the context of dispositif orders is of major interest.

Keywords: discourse, dispositif, performativity, relational materialism, critical human agency
