Das Jüdische Gymnasium in Berlin ist stark nachgefragt. Der Artikel untersucht die Narrative, mit denen ehemalige Schülerinnen und Schüler die Entscheidung ihrer Familien erklären, das Jüdische Gymnasium als weiterführende Schule zu wählen. Mit Hilfe qualitativer Methoden - dem problemzentrierten Interview und der Grounded Theory - werden drei Narrative für die Schulwahl herausgearbeitet und im Zusammenhang mit dem Ziel der Schulgründung die Revitalisierung jüdischen Lebens in Deutschland diskutiert. Ergebnis ist, dass weniger das jüdische Profil der Schule, sondern Faktoren wie der Privatschulstatus oder die Schulform Gymnasium die Entscheidung zugunsten des Jüdischen Gymnasiums strukturieren.

The Jewish High School in Berlin is in high demand. The article examines the narratives used by former students to explain their families´ decision to choose the Jewish Gymnasium as a secondary school. With the help of qualitative methods - the problem-oriented interview and Grounded Theory - three narratives for school choice are worked out and discussed in connection with the goal of the school foundation, the revitalization of Jewish life in Germany. The result is that it is not so much the Jewish profile of the school but factors such as the status of the private school or the type of school - a Gymnasium - that structure the decision in favour of the Jewish Gymnasium.
