Zusammenfassung: Wie können wir Gedenktage als kollektive und hochgradig politische Erinnerungsanlasse untersuchen? Während das Forschungsfeld bisweilen durch unproduktive Polarisierungen gekennzeichnet ist wie die zwischen Akteur und Struktur, Ideen und Materie bzw. Realismus und Konstruktivismus, bahnt der Beitrag einem spezifischen Denken dazwischen den Weg. Hierfür werden die ritual- und gedächtnistheoretischen Arbeiten von Jan und Aleida Assmann mit Michel Foucaults genealogischem Denken und dessen Machtanalytik kontrastiert. Uber Ernst Cassirer und Roland Barthes gelangt der Beitrag zu einem postkonstruktivistischen Verständnis von kollektivem Gedenken als Inszenierung - unter dem "Druck der Realität" (Barthes).

Summary: How can we study commemoration days as highly political cues of collective remembering? While the field of research is characterized by unproductive polarities such as agency and structure, ideas and materiality respectively realism and constructivism, the article paves the way for a specific thinking in-between. Therefore, the work of Jan and Aleida Assmann on rituals and memory theory is contrasted with Michel Foucault´s genealogical thinking and his analytics of power. Via Ernst Cassirer and Roland Barthes the article arrives at a post-constructivist understanding of collective commemoration as staging - under the ›instance of reality‹ (Barthes).
