Beschreibung / Abstract

Political participation is essential for the assertion of its own and professional goals. The degree of organisations of nurses as well as the willingness to participate politically, is described in the literature as low. However, there is a lack of data on the political participation of nurses in Germany. This survey was conducted by the following research questions: How do nurses rate their own political participation? What are predictors of the self-reported political participation? Between November 2013 and March 2014 data from a total of 559 nurses were collected in an online survey. To identify predictors of political participation, the data were analyzed in four logistic regression models. Predictors of political participation are political interest and age. Other significant predictors are gender, educational achievements, leadership position and political knowledge. The interpretation of the data should take into account the selective sampling. The sample characteristics differs from the population characteristics according to gender, age and educational achievements
