Beschreibung / Abstract

Abstract: The article focuses on the transformation of the concept of progress into that of innovation. "Renewal" seems to be constitutively linked with the claim to improvement and growth. In the field of education, the power of innovation rhetoric reveals itself in that imperatives of renewal are being followed even if the implicitly or explicitly raised claims to qualitative growth and/or (quantitative) development remain unaudited. Thus, efforts at innovation hardly need to be justified anymore, quite unlike efforts at maintaining the status quo. This trend is - in a rhetorically pointed manner - described as "neomanic". Keywords: Innovation, Progress, Neo-Mania, Tradition, Aesthetication
