Zusammenfassung: Beim Ausbau ihres offentlichen Schulsystems im neunzehnten und zwanzigsten Jahrhundert gelang es der anti-klerikalen franzosischen Republik zunachst nicht, das altere katholische Schulwesen zu integrieren. Bis heute befinden sich 17% der Schulplatze in Privatschulen. Doch werden inzwischen fast alle privaten Schulen offentlich finanziert und unterliegen denselben administrativen und padagogischen Vorschriften wie die staatlichen Schulen, von denen sie sich vor allem in der sozialen Herkunft der Schulerschaften unterscheiden. Unser Beitrag beschreibt den Prozess der Angleichung des Privatschulwesen in Frankreich an das offentliche Schulsystem seit den 1960er Jahren und geht der Frage nach, warum die Privatschulquote hier in den letzten Jahrzehnten nicht gewachsen ist, obwohl die Mehrheit der Franzosen Privatschulen als unentbehrlich betrachten.

Abstract: In the course of the expansion of its state school system during the 19th and 20th century, the anti-clerical French Republic did at first not succeed in integrating the older Catholic school system. Up until today, 17% of the places for students are at private schools. However, by now almost all of the private schools receive state funds and are thus subject to the same administrative and pedagogical regulations as the state schools, from which they differ above all in the social background of their students. - This contribution describes the process of the alignment of the private school system in France to the state school system since the 1960s and inquires into the question of why the proportion of students attending private schools has not increased during the last few decades despite the fact that the majority of the French people consider private schools indispensable.
