Beschreibung / Abstract

In social pedagogy and special needs education, the resource-based view and, associated with this, the concept of resilience are broadly accepted. Against this mainstream perspective, it is argued that the resource-based view and the concept of resilience are not able (1) to help understand the serious disorders of handful children and adolescents, (2) to identify the contribution of institutions of public education to disordered or "derailed" processes of education, and (3) to grasp the consequences of structural irresponsibility on the part of the professionals in public education. A shift in perspective is proposed that looks into the social and institutional preconditions for mature pedagogy, i.e. a style of education that is able and willing to accept structural responsibility, offer professional resistance and carry out conflicts. Such an alternative perspective avoids trivializing the serious blockages in the development and education processes of handful kids, acknowledges the dependence and structural irresponsibility of education professionals, and accepts the social and political limits of public education. -- Keywords: resource-based view, concept of resilience, working alliance, pedagogic jargon, structural responsibility, resistance, ability to deal with conflict
